The distance
Ninety miles, on one machine
The powerboat APACHE STAR set the Key West–Havana record in 2015. The shortest stretch of water between the United States and Cuba is ninety miles — but on 1 August Roger Klüh drove her the longer way, from Key West to Havana: around 110 nautical miles, in 90 minutes. The mark she broke had stood since 1958.
This motorcycle is built out of that distance. Not a commemorative paint job with a story attached — a machine whose two flanks belong to the two shores, and a single frame holding both.
The full story is in our archive: How Roger Klüh set the Key West–Havana record in 2015 and The 2,700 hp boat behind the crossing.

Cuba is always on the left. The United States is always on the right. That rule holds on the machine and in the film, always seen from the saddle — which is why the two flanks in the turntable above face away from each other. Ninety miles apart, with everything else in between.
Neither side is a version of the other, and we never mirror a photograph of it: flip the image and the lettering breaks, and so does the rule. Ride past someone and they see one country. Ride past them again and they see the other.
FUEL YOUR LEGEND
From a record set on water in 2015 to a machine that carries the same ninety miles on land
The number
Fifty
The crossing was made on 1 August 2015 — one day after Roger Klüh's fiftieth birthday. He ran it in a racing overall carrying the number 50, orange on black.
That number is older than the record. The throttleman Richie Powers had raced under it with Don Johnson; when he joined Omar Danial on Apache Heritage, he brought the 50 with him, and she raced under it through the 1992 and 1993 world championships. It stayed on the hull when she became APACHE STAR — forty-five feet long, then as now.
Every machine carries the APACHE STAR plaque on its tank and comes with a certificate.

The film that explains this paint
THE BRIDGE: 90 miles apart is the first film we have made, and the first thing we have made entirely with AI. There is no dialogue in it at all — not one word, no voice-over, no subtitles. This machine is at the centre of it.
It is our entry in the Higgsfield Global Film Festival 2026, and it has its cinema premiere at the Parklichtspiele Buckow on 20 September 2026.
It obeys exactly the same rule as the paint. Seen from the saddle, Cuba is on the left, with the bag, and the United States on the right, with the exhaust. Nobody in the film explains it and nobody needs to.

Questions
Everything else
What is the World Record Heritage Edition?
A motorcycle built on the Ducati Scrambler Nightshift, with a two-sided hand-painted livery — one flank American, one flank Cuban.
Why the number 50?
It is the number the boat raced under — first as Apache Heritage in the 1992 and 1993 world championships, then on the record crossing of 1 August 2015, one day after Roger Klüh's fiftieth birthday.
What is the difference between the two editions?
The exhaust. The Heritage Edition runs a road-legal configuration at 73 hp; the Heritage Racing runs the Termignoni racing system at 75 hp and is not approved for use on public roads. The livery and the certificate are identical.
Is the livery painted or printed?
Painted and aged by hand. No two machines weather identically, which is also why the photographs on this page are never mirrored — flip the image and the lettering breaks.
What record did APACHE STAR set in 2015?
The powerboat APACHE STAR set the Key West–Havana record in 2015: on 1 August she ran the roughly 110 nautical miles from Key West to Havana in 90 minutes, breaking a mark set in 1958 by Forest Johnson, who needed six hours, twenty-four minutes and forty seconds from Miami. Read the full story.
What is THE BRIDGE: 90 miles apart?
A short film by APACHE STAR®, made entirely with AI, with no dialogue in it at all. It is our entry in the Higgsfield Global Film Festival 2026, and it premieres at the Parklichtspiele Buckow on 20 September 2026. Watch it here.
