Roger Klüh: Birthday today, world record tomorrow

The Apache Star is powered by two Mercury power packs that develop 2700 hp. At 4 p.m. German time, Roger Klüh wants to start the ambitious trip, where possible high waves are the least dangerous. Objects floating in the water, such as wooden pallets, are risky. At speeds of more than 100 km/h, it is extremely difficult to spot and avoid such obstacles. The trip was preceded by two years of preparation, and numerous bureaucratic hurdles had to be overcome. The political thaw between the USA and Cuba now makes the world record attempt possible, which will be celebrated at the Hemingway Yacht Club in Havana.
